A Year in the Land of Rocks

Almost exactly one year ago, we arrived in Rockland Maine (after having to leave Greece, etc., etc.) and we wondered how long we'd be here. Would vaccines come quickly and help us get out in the fall of 2020? Could we possibly, really stay here over a Maine winter?! Prior to pulling up in our rental car a year ago, we'd never set foot in this part of Maine so we had no idea if we'd like it. Luckily, we hit the jackpot with Rockland. It's a lovely, friendly, tranquil spot and it's been nice to see four seasons here. Little did we guess that one year later we'd be reading the sample ballot so we can vote in a local election Tuesday (because we're now officially Mainers). To borrow from a John Lennon song, "life is what happens when you're making other plans." Is that ever an understatement?

Maine doesn't really get busy until after Memorial Day, but it does seem like this will be a busier summer here than last summer. That's good for Vacationland, but we enjoyed having the place practically to ourselves. How quickly you can become like a local and feel like you deserve the nice Maine weather more than those who wintered in Florida. Anyway, we head into summer #2 in Rockland and begin to strategize about returning to Greece later this year...

In boring travel journal computer logistics, Google is killing off their email service for sending out emails about these journal entries. I had to find a new email service (and migrate everyone who is subscribed to the new system), but I don't think it sent out a notice about our last entry, which was about wood trolls at the nearby botanical gardens. If you want to see the giant wood trolls, be sure to take a look. They're worth viewing!
