A sad trip back to the States

While in Kuching last week, we got news that all families fear receiving. Sam's sister, Debbie, died unexpectedly. Within about 4 hours of hearing the sad news we began a series of flights (about 34 hours of travel) home to Jacksonville, FL to be with family.  We got to Jacksonville on Thursday, there was a memorial for her on Saturday, and then we rode to Atlanta with Sam's older brother so we could figure out next steps since we didn't plan on being in this part of the world right now. We'll be in Atlanta for a few more days, but we decided today to fly to Corfu (Greece) on Saturday. This is of course a short version of some tedious, difficult travel and lots of grieving (but also celebration of Debbie's too short time on earth).  We're glad we came back to be here, but it's been painful, too.

As of right now, the US has no travel advisories for Greece. We've missed being in Greece since we left in November so it'll be nice to be back although the whole world feels different to us because of losing Debbie, who was one of the biggest cheerleaders for what we're doing. And perhaps the whole world feels different in general because of global fears of pandemic.

Wishing everyone good health.

Debbie
