Kuching, cat city

We arrived in Kuching yesterday a bit later than expected. Our original flight here got cancelled and we got rebooked on another flight the next day. The plane here probably had a capacity of about 200 people, but there were only 10 passengers on the flight! On arrival in Kuching, we had to give airport staff a written health statement (they aren't letting any people who've recently visited China in) and a nurse took everyone's temperature.  To be on the safe side, we've never washed our hands more than in the past day or two.

Kuching is known for being chilled out and sort of a time-warp back to old Asia, but it seems even more chilled out given travel limitations from the coronavirus situation in China. Oh, and Kuching means 'cat'. They are lots of healthy looking kitties here and they have some amusing cat statues and artwork around town.

The locals are cheerful and practically everyone greets us with a smile and hello as we walk around. And these people are crazy about food and drinks (and I'm talking about coffee, tea, and a million different fruit drinks/shakes)! Hmm, time-warp travel and food... that's our kind of scene! We're aiming to walk a couple hours in the morning each day to accommodate our ability to eat everything we'd like to consume.

Our flight to Kuching ...after boarding was completed!

Sarawak laksa, a famous (deservedly so!) seafood soup from here
Fried snapper with a sweet and sour sauce, with stir fried fern in the background. Both really good and so inexpensive
