Cricket and Don't Go To...

We've been in Melbourne almost a week. Based on US news, you'd think that the whole country is burnt to cinders! The fires around the country are bad and sad, but at the same time, life carries on and the locals go about their business and are undeterred. For the most part, you wouldn't even know anything is going on within Victoria.  Until yesterday, we've had good air but there's been lots of smoke today and it's likely for tomorrow, too. Before the winds turned, our pal Andrew took me to my first cricket match and I got to see Big Bash League history (read about it here if you so desire)! The Melbourne Cricket Ground is one of the most famous stadiums in the world and merits that distinction. And Andrew tutored me on the nuances of the game. Fun!

We've taken it easy today and I've been doing some artwork. I'm crazy about vintage travel posters and have had a goal to create my own artwork inspired by such posters and based on our trip.  This Big Trip has reinforced some themes for us, like: 1) the notion that visiting famous sites is a futile exercise because of over-tourism and that smaller places are much more fun; and 2) that we want to protect some of the places we love but aren't (or aren't yet) popular. Here's a couple posters below based on our travels and touching on these themes...
